How LensCompat's Amazon links work, and why they never influence compatibility verdicts.
The short version
LensCompat participates in the Amazon Associates Program. Retailer links on this site go to
Amazon and carry the tracking id lenscompat-20. If you click one and make a
qualifying purchase, LensCompat may earn a referral commission at no additional cost to you.
As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. This statement is required by the FTC's 16 CFR Part 255 and appears directly above every purchase button on the tool page.
What a click does
Most links are deep links to a specific Amazon product page (/dp/<ASIN>);
the tracking tag is appended to the URL. Amazon's standard Associates cookie window applies
(24 hours for products added to cart in the same session — the exact terms are Amazon's).
The commission rate depends on the product category; camera gear is in a low single-digit
percentage bracket.
Where no verified product page exists for an item, the link is a plain Amazon search for the exact model name instead — the site never deep-links to a product it could not verify.
Independence: verdicts are never for sale
Every compatibility verdict on this site is computed from a dataset whose rows cite verified
manufacturer documentation (Canon and Nikon official pages, plus a small number of
third-party references) — never from retail listings. Retail listings exist in the data only
as a product identity ledger (an amz-<ASIN> source row proving a
deep link points at the right product), and the build validator enforces that such rows are
never used as compatibility evidence.
The affiliate relationship does not influence which products appear, which verdicts are produced, or what the caveats say. No retailer pays for placement, and no price or availability data is stored (retail state rots — the site deliberately doesn't track it).
Privacy
LensCompat collects and stores no personal data. Analytics (when enabled) reports aggregate usage events only — no names, no email addresses, no purchase history.
